Tips on Keeping Yourself Safe While on a Tour

If your school sponsors a tour, especially in another country, take the opportunity to join in. Not only is it fun but it also increases your knowledge. You will see exotic places, learn unique cultures, and meet different people. In fact, many universities are incorporating tours in their education programmes rather than having students spend most of their time confined in the classroom.

Since you will be outside the security of your school, you need to take precautions in order to be safe during the trip. Here are some tips so you will return home in one piece.

Make sure you listen to your teacher or guide when he or she gives a briefing on the tour plan. Make sure you ask for a copy of the itinerary, especially in matters of travel routes, schedules, and places to visit. In this way, if you get lost, you can easily find your way back to the group. However, it would be so much easier for you if you will not get lost in the first place. Thus, stay with your group as much as possible. If you need to split up, go with another student or two. Having companions inhibits muggers to target you as a potential prey.

Additionally, leave your precious belongings such as electronics, jewelleries, and cash in the place where your group is staying. If you have to bring them, make sure your bag is closed the whole time. It would be best if you keep your bag in front of you so you can always keep an eye on it. Finally, if your group stops at an attraction and the guide starts discussing something, stay in front rather than the back of the group. Doing so lessens the chances of being a victim of pickpockets.
